Was Philip K. Dick a precog?

K.Dick had a talent for showing the funny or ironic side of his creations. In this story Barney and Roni, both precogs, foresaw that they would be lovers as soon as they met, so naturally they decided to skip the preliminaries and get on with it.

I read this book last week, and I think that it’s really quite good.

This book was written in 1964; time enough for Dick to see astronauts carrying their own cooling units when climbing into rockets. It is a considerable leap to see how they might be used in global warning.

Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood

I really love these guys. Not just because they combined hip hop with electronica, two genres I’m not fussed by, and actually got good music out of it. I also love them because, despite there being 4 cartoon members in the band, there are only 2 people behind them, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. These 2 have taken their anonymity to such an extent that they no longer even appear on stage for live performances, which obviously would be terrible if all bands did it, or if it was done badly, but the Gorillaz do it brilliantly.

ERASERHEAD

This is where is the Lynchian nightmare began. Though he may have redefined surrealistic cinema in the 1980s and forever altered the face of television in the 90s, for many hardcore fans it is this infamous feature film debut that is David Lynch's crowning achievement. Many words have been used to describe Eraserhead (weird, bizarre, frustrating, enlightening, significant, unwatchable, meaningless, and momentous), but there is no denying it is completely unforgettable. As a surreal work of art, Eraserhead easily holds it own next to the works as Buñuel, Cocteau, and Dali. And like many surrealistic works, there is no clear answer on what Eraserhead "means." But, if you are trying to find a simple, linear, plot in Eraserhead, you are clearly missing the point. For Eraserhead is not simply a movie to view, but a true cinematic experience, like jumping into someone's nightmare and seeing it from their perspective. Whether you see it as a meditation on the terror of being a new parent, the suffocating feeling of living in an increasingly vapid, industrial wasteland, or a nightmare about the fear of loneliness, the film easily holds up to multiple viewings. And since this film is a dark visual ride and a supreme aural achievement, this long awaited, new transfer is an absolute blessing for David Lynch fans who will finally get to see, hear and experience Eraserhead clearly on DVD. Bizarre experiment? Surrealistic nightmare? Or a meaningless cult film? You be the judge.

Blade Runner - Tears in rain

It´s hard to find a good, touching sci-fi film these days, and Blade Runner sent shock waves, raising the eternal question: what is humanity?. Phillip K. Dick lives forever and praise Ridley Scott for delivering his views so well.

(Roy's speech: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die". )
